I am a PhD student at the University of Manchester researching the experience of childbirth in the eighteenth century. My aim is to restore some of the guts and gore to the History of Birth by looking at the physical experience of birth and its wider socio-cultural role in the community whilst trying to retain my own sanity and sense of perspective.
